Dr Richard Houlston's Group is investigating new personalised treatments for the blood cancers myeloma.
Professor Richard Houlston is Head of the Division of Genetics and Epidemiology. His research focuses on the identification and characterisation of genetic susceptibility to cancer.
Dr Andrea Gunnell is a cell biologist working on the identification of new predisposition alleles for myeloma through GWAS analysis and molecular genetic functional studies to elucidate biological basis for genetic susceptibility.
I joined the team in 2018 and I execute the processing, biobanking and biomarker profiling of clinical samples from national myeloma clinical trials. I use flow cytometry and molecular biology techniques established in our laboratory to detect genetic aberrations in patient samples.
I am currently investigating the molecular mechanism of drug resistance in multiple myeloma using molecular and cell biology techniques.
I joined the team in January 2020 and work on the processing of myeloma clinical trial samples. I utilise molecular biology techniques and flow cytometry to assess genetic and immunological changes in patient samples.
