ICR Charity Place - Terms & Conditions
Thank you for applying to join #TeamICR at the TCS London Marathon 2027. By accepting an ICR charity place, you agree to the terms below, which apply specifically to runners with an Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) charity place and replace our standard event terms.

Definitions
- “The Charity” means The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), exempt charity (Reference: X90004)
- “You, Your” means the individual applying for and accepting a TCS London Marathon 2027 ICR charity place
- “The Event” means the TCS London Marathon 2027
- “Event Organiser” means the London Marathon Events Ltd (LME)
- “Charity place” means an official marathon place owned and allocated by ICR in return for a registration fee and fundraising commitment
- The Event is organised by London Marathon Events Ltd and not the ICR. LME are solely responsible for the delivery and operation of the Event.
- You must be 18 years or over on race day (25 April 2027).
- You must also agree to the Event Organiser’s General Conditions of Entry when registering. If there is any conflict between these terms, LME’s terms will apply to your place in the event.
- By applying for a charity place, you agree that the ICR may contact you about your participation by phone, email, text, post or other digital platforms (e.g. WhatsApp or Microsoft Teams).
- Your personal data will be handled in line with the ICR’s main and fundraising privacy policy.
- Applications will open on Monday 20 April 2026 and close 31 July 2026.
- Applications must be submitted via the ICR online application form between these dates, in order to be considered for a place in the TCS London Marathon 2027.
- All applicants who successfully submit, will be contacted with the outcome of their application.
- If successful in gaining a place, you will be contacted by phone and receive confirmation via email from the sports team at ICR. You must pay a £75 registration fee to confirm your place.
- This fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and must be paid within 7 days of verbally accepting your place. It does not count towards your fundraising total.
- ICR Charity places cannot be transferred to another person or event without prior agreement from the ICR.
- You must also register with the Event Organiser via ‘Let’s Do This’ by the deadline communicated to you. Failure to do so will result in you being unable to take part. The sports team will ensure this deadline and any action is clearly communicated with you.
- If you can no longer take part, you must inform the ICR as soon as possible.
- You take part at your own risk. the ICR cannot accept liability for injury, loss or damage, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
- By registering, you confirm that you are medically and physically fit to participate. If you are unsure, you should seek medical advice.
- Any medical or physical condition that may affect your participation must be reported to London Marathon Events and the ICR.
- During the Event, LME is responsible for health and safety, and you must follow all instructions provided by them.
- You are responsible for your own travel and accommodation costs, unless you are the winner of an the ICR prize draw. The Charity cannot cover these costs if your place is withdrawn.
- You agree to raise a minimum of £2,750 (excluding Gift Aid) for the ICR only.
- You are encouraged to raise as much as possible above this minimum.
- All fundraising must be completed by 8 weeks post the Event, unless agreed with the Charity.
- Runners registering after 1 November 2026 may discuss the amended milestones with the ICR given they have a shorter time to commence fundraising.
- The ICR reserves the right to withdraw your place if you are not meeting agreed milestones or demonstrating commitment, but will stay in regular contact to support you.
Fundraising milestones (excluding Gift Aid):
- £1,375 (50%) by 4 January 2027
- £2,200 (80%) by race day – 25 April 2027
- £2,750 (100%) by 20 June 2027
- All fundraising must be legal, responsible, and comply with the Fundraising Code of Practice.
- You must not do anything that could damage the ICR’s reputation.
- Supporters must be made aware that you are fundraising in aid of the ICR, not acting on its behalf.
- If you withdraw and do not defer your place, all funds raised are non-refundable and will be treated as a donation to the ICR.
- Regular donations you already make to the ICR cannot count towards your fundraising total.
- Funds must be paid to the ICR via one of the following:
- The ICR website
- Your online fundraising page (preferably JustGiving or Enthuse)

- By cheque (payable to The Institute of Cancer Research), quoting your name and the Event, sent to:

- Only the ICR-issued or approved sponsorship forms may be used.
- Completed sponsorship forms must be returned within 8 weeks of the Event.
- Charity place deferrals are at ICR’s discretion.
- If you need to defer, please contact [email protected] as soon as possible.
Deferral rules:
- A place can only be deferred once.
- You must have met the fundraising milestone in place at the time of your request.
- Requests must be received before the official entry system closes.
- Exceptional circumstances will be considered.
- Your registration fee is non-refundable, and a new registration fee will be required to defer to the 2028 event.
- Funds already raised will carry over, although the fundraising target may change.
- Once deferred, you will be removed from event communications until the following year.
- Information submitted to the ICR will be stored and processed in line with the ICR privacy policy.
- The ICR will contact you throughout your London Marathon journey regarding your place administration, fundraising advice and event updates.
- Registration data will be shared with London Marathon Events Ltd and Let’s Do This for event administration.
- The ICR may share relevant details with trusted third parties supporting the Event (e.g. Mailchimp).
- You agree that photographs, videos or quotes of you taken during the Event may be used by the ICR for marketing, fundraising and awareness purposes.
- Any images or footage you share with the ICR may also be used across our channels.
- Images of children will not be used without written consent unless incidental.
- If you prefer not to be featured in photos, videos or quotes, please contact the Sports & Challenges team.
