Annual Report on Bullying and Harassment

The ICR has a zero tolerance policy towards bullying and harassment in the workplace.

Message from Professor Dame Julia Buckingham, CBE, DBE FMedSci, Chair of the Board of Trustees

The ICR does not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment or abusive behaviour towards our staff or students from any person. We operate a zero-tolerance policy, a stance the Board of Trustees fully supports.

The Board receives an annual report on the number of cases of bullying, harassment and other unacceptable behaviour raised by colleagues and the actions taken to tackle such behaviour. We take a keen interest in this data and how complaints are investigated.  We are aware of the various routes staff and students can use to report such behaviour and how these routes are promoted across the organisation. Whilst we appreciate how difficult this can be for some, we strongly encourage colleagues to speak up and report inappropriate behaviour via any one of these routes, so appropriate action can be taken.

All individuals have a responsibility to behave in ways which create an inclusive and tolerant working environment and to play their part in challenging inappropriate behaviour. In particular, we expect our senior staff to:

  • act as role models in promoting a workplace culture that promotes dignity and respect.
  • foster an environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of background or identity.
  • tackle inappropriate behaviour promptly and fairly, ensuring that staff and students know that they will be listened to and their concerns taken seriously.

The Board also places a great importance on training in this area. We encourage all staff and students to ensure their training is up to date.
