Trusts and Foundations at the ICR
One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime. Working in partnership with Trusts and Foundations, we can accelerate the research that brings hope to every person facing cancer.
Testimonials
“The Betty Lawes Foundation is proud to have been supporting the ICR for over 20 years with special interest in their research into prostate cancer which for family reasons is very close to their hearts. During that time both detection and treatment have improved thanks to the dedication and passion of the medical and scientific researchers.
Through the ICR receptions we have the opportunity to meet with many of the scientists and clinicians and hear about progress being made in different areas of cancer research with advancements in treatment and the development of new drugs. They are an inspiring group of people whose research we greatly appreciate.”
Margaret Lee, Trustee
“The Infrastructure Industry Foundation was honoured to support the Alternatives 2 Cancer project through our 2025 Gala Dinner, uniting infrastructure industry peers in advancing vital cancer research. Championed by Rhonda Ryan, our grant funded Dr. Shihao's postgraduate research into breast cancer at the Institute of Cancer Research, with the ambitious goal of understanding why certain breast cancers become aggressive.
During a laboratory tour, Professor Victoria Sanz-Moreno and her team provided invaluable insight into their ground-breaking work investigating cancer metastasis. Witnessing firsthand the dedication and innovation driving this research reinforced our commitment to supporting causes that directly impact both the communities we serve and members of our industry. We're proud to have contributed to research that will ultimately transform outcomes for breast cancer patients."

Areas where your support can make an impact
Explore areas of our work and see how your support could bring hope, more time and better outcomes for people living with cancer.
The Centre for Cancer Drug Discovery
Our CCDD is the largest academic cancer drug-discovery centre in the world. With the generous help of Trusts and Foundations, our scientists can continue to turn cutting-edge science into new cancer treatments, discovering drugs, testing them and bringing hope to patients worldwide.
Hard to Treat Cancers
Many patients face cancers for which few effective treatments exist. For instance, pancreatic, lung, brain, sarcomas and other rare tumours remain stubbornly hard to treat. Our research is creating new paths toward treatments that could change lives for patients with even the most complex cancers.
Training the Next Generation
Our PhD programme gives talented young scientists the opportunity to work alongside world‑leading researchers, developing the skills and ideas that will shape the future of cancer treatment. With support from Trusts and Foundations, we can continue to nurture these future leaders in cancer research.
Supporting the ICR through world-class facilities
We want to ensure our research and organisation has the latest equipment and best services to meet our future priorities. We will develop our core scientific facilities so our researchers are fully supported and can pursue the most exciting new cutting-edge areas of science.
What does a partnership with the ICR look like?
Almost 3.5 million people in the UK are currently living with cancer; a figure that continues to grow. Your support is essential in allowing us to invest in cutting-edge technology to innovative research projects at our sites in Chelsea and Sutton.
Your investment supports our work by providing funds that are directed to cancer research projects matching a specific area of interest or tumour type, or where the need is greatest.
To help ensure you are kept up to date on the impact of your support, we can offer a range of opportunities including:
- Bespoke progress report on the impact of your gift
- Invitations to annual ICR events to hear the latest research updates directly from our scientists
- Tour of our laboratories
- A dedicated member of the Trusts Team as your point of contact
Meet the Team
A gift to the ICR is a gift of hope
"I still have a lot of living left to do”
"Don’t cry Mummy, I’m going to be fine"
“New research will take away people's fear"
Advancing global partnerships in cancer research
Our multidisciplinary centres of excellence and strategic collaborations bring a critical mass of leading researchers together from across the ICR, The Royal Marsden and partner institutions to tackle some of the biggest challenges in cancer research and treatment. By sharing expertise, technology and resources, we aim to deliver world-class research that rapidly benefits patients. This often entails various international collaborations with world-leading scientists.
