Biography
Dr Sunil Iyengar was appointed as a Consultant Haematologist at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in 2014 and holds an honorary lecturer position at the Institute of Cancer Research.
He trained in Haematology at University College Hospital before undertaking research in Mantle cell lymphoma at Barts Cancer Institute. Dr Iyengar won the EHA-ASH Translational Research Fellowship in 2011 and was awarded the Royal College of Pathologists research medal in Haematology in 2013.
His current research interests focus on the biology and imaging of lymphoid neoplasms with the goal of improving diagnosis and tailoring management. The projects he is involved in include molecular characterisation of rare and unclassifiable lymphoid neoplasms, studying the mechanisms of resistance to novel therapies in B-cell malignancies and improving risk stratification of patients with B-cell lymphoma. He has a particular interest in mantle cell lymphoma and has published on resistance to PI3 kinase delta inhibition in mantle cell lymphoma as well as on establishing a patient derived xenograft model of the disease.
Dr Iyengar is an investigator on a number of clinical research studies using kinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies in CLL and lymphoma. He is a member of the British Society of Haematology specialist interest group in lymphoma as well as the CLL and Hodgkin lymphoma NCRI subgroups.
