Everyman appeal

Every year in the UK, more than 10,000 men lose their lives to prostate cancer and over 2,000 others have their world turned upside down by a diagnosis of testicular cancer. These men are the reason why we established the Everyman appeal in 1997 and they are the reason we are still fundraising for male-specific cancers today.

The Everyman appeal has so far raised over £10 million to support our research into male cancers – investigating the causes, improving diagnosis and actively researching new treatments to save lives.

With your help, ICR scientists have made significant breakthroughs, including discovering and developing the revolutionary prostate cancer drug abiraterone. This pioneering drug was made available on the NHS in 2012 and was the first shown to be effective in men with advanced prostate cancer. It is now extending the lives of men around the world.

But that is not the end of the story. Our researchers continue to make great advances for the benefit of male cancer patients. Professor Ros Eeles is searching for the genetic changes that increase a man’s risk of prostate cancer, and Professor Johann de Bono is developing new targeted treatments for men suffering with prostate cancer.

However, there is still more to do and we still need your help. By donating to the Everyman appeal, you are helping to fund world-leading science that will make a real impact to the lives of men with cancer.

You can also support our work by taking part in one of our Sports and Challenge events. Keen cyclist Simon Richardson did just that, by signing up for the London to Paris Cycle Ride in April 2014, raising over £3,600 towards our research.
