2. Trek the Great Wall of China

If running isn’t your thing, this trip of a lifetime sees you climb the twists, turns and slopes of this formidable fortification as you trek over ancient watch towers and battlement stations. It’s a physically demanding trek – around 5-7 hours walking each day – and will appeal to anyone with a sense of adventure. Book now for one of two departure dates in October 2016.

3. Leave a gift in your will

Whether you are writing a will for the first time or simply reviewing your current will –recommended every five years – please consider supporting the ICR by including a gift in your will. It will help the ICR make the discoveries that defeat cancer and benefit future generations.

Using a solicitor or professional will writer is the best way to ensure that all of the legal formalities are followed. And if you are aged 60 or over and live in one of our participating regions, you may wish to take advantage of our Will for Free programme, a collaboration between participating solicitors and the ICR which allows you to make a professionally written will free of charge.

4. Join a 10K race

If you’re working your way up to a marathon, or are a less experienced runner looking for a first challenge, then the Vitality British 10K London Run 10K run across London may be right up your street. Participants race across the heart of central London past many historic landmarks, including Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral. We have guaranteed places for the event, which is on Sunday 10 July 2016.

5. Cycle from London to Paris

Three hundred miles. Five days. Two amazing cities. One bicycle – yours. If you’re into cycling then this epic road journey between the UK and French capitals might be just your thing. You’ll depart London and pass through beautiful English countryside and rural France, past historical landmarks and famous World War I battlefields, finishing at the iconic Eiffel Tower. 6. Donate to our Sarcoma Appeal

Professor Janet Shipley studies a rare type of sarcoma called rhabdomyosarcoma, a cruel disease that most often affects children and young people. And she needs your help.

Outcomes for the more aggressive forms of rhabdomyosarcoma are particularly poor: less than 30% of people survive their cancer for more than five years. So Professor Shipley is attempting to find new ways to treat young people with aggressive disease. She is also examining whether we can repurpose drugs used in other cancer types to treat rhabdomyosarcoma in children and young people. In the longer term, she’s working to discover entirely new drugs for the disease.

A donation to Professor Shipley’s work could make a real difference to young people living with cancer.

7. Push yourself in an endurance challenge

Just how tough are you? Find out by pushing yourself to the limit in one of three endurance challenges – Iron Man Triathlon, Tough Mudder and Spartan Race – on behalf of Team ICR. Not for the faint hearted, these challenges test your strength and challenge your powers of perseverance. The events take place across the UK and Europe throughout the year, and are an excellent way to raise vital funds for our world-leading research.
