Rob's ARTTT – supporting research into DSRCT and rhabdomyosarcoma at the ICR
We are delighted to be working with Rob’s ARTTT in our shared vision to improve the chances of survival for children diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour (DSRCT) and rhabdomyosarcoma.
Soft tissue sarcomas are a major cause of death from cancer in children and adolescents. The funded researcher in Dr Janet Shipley's team is looking to identify molecular targets in childhood and adolescent soft tissue sarcomas, including DSRCTs, which could form the basis of new, more effective and less toxic treatment methods for patients with these tumours.
Dr Shipley says, “To hear about Robert, his treatment and the money that Rob’s ARTTT has raised is very humbling. The charity’s fundraising achievements to date are very impressive, a real testament to Rob’s own vision to fund research into DSCRT. It shows his caring and quite mature belief that the answers to treating this condition are out there and that he wanted to make sure other children and teenagers don’t have to suffer as he did. We are very grateful to the Trustees of Rob’s ARTTT for its generous support.”
Potentially all children and young people with sarcomas could benefit from this research, along with the families faced with providing emotional support and care for their loved-ones in the most difficult of circumstances. Our vision for childhood cancer research is to take forward research into the genetic causes of cancer in children and teenagers and design drugs specifically for young cancer patients.
