Chris Lucas Trust
Lynn and Lynn Lucas set up the trust following the tragic death of their son Christopher from rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive cancer resembling muscle tissue. They have awarded us more than £500,000 which has funded dedicated researchers working to increase our understanding of this condition.
Christopher’s Smile
Christopher’s Smile was set up in 2008 after Kevin and Karen Capel lost their son Christopher to an aggressive medulloblastoma brain tumour. So far, they have raised more than £300,000 – enough money to fund a Scientific Officer, a Post-Doctoral training fellow and various items of lab equipment.
Graeme Chapman and the Climb of Life
The Climb of Life (now in its 25th year) is an event organised by Graeme Chapman where friends, family, work colleagues and associates walk in the Lake District every November. Approximately 120 people take part in a choice of 11 walks of varying difficulty. As well as raising sponsorship, Graeme hosts a tombola and auction. Since 2007, he has raised more than £300,000 through the Climb of Life for the ICR.
Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association website
The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association has been a supporter of ours for more than 25 years, distributing more than £400,000 to assist us in our work, specifically research into skin and male cancers.
Rob’s ARTTT
RobsARTTT (A Rare Teenage Tumour Trust) has provided funds of more than £100,000. This enables a researcher to identify molecular targets in childhood and adolescent soft tissue sarcomas, including DSRCTs. The work could form the basis of new, more effective and less toxic treatment methods for patients with these tumours.
Rosetrees Trust
Rosetrees Trust was established in 1987 and has supported our scientists with more than £430,000 since 2001. In 2011 the Trust pledged further support to help advance research into skin and head and neck cancers, as well as sponsoring a PhD student.
Stavros Niarchos Foundation
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation was founded to support and promote the founder’s vision and interest in education, social welfare, health and medicine, and arts and culture. In 2010 the Trustees of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation agreed to fund two three-year research projects at the ICR, worth more than £350,000.
