Carols from Chelsea

Tuesday 4 December 2012
The Chapel

The Institute of Cancer Research’s annual Carols from Chelsea, took place on 4 December and raised in excess of £100,000.

Over 400 people attended this, our tenth such service, held in  Wren’s stunning chapel of the Royal Hospital Chelsea.  As always there was a festive atmosphere, and we were delighted that a number of well known personalities joined us to give readings including: Alan Titchmarsh, Sir Mervyn King, Mishal Husain and Edward Fox.

There were also wonderful performances from the soprano, Mary Bevan and the winners of the BBC Radio Two Young Choristers of the Year competition – Louisa Stirland and Isaac Waddington.  The 606 Gospel Group gave a rousing performance both during the service and afterwards during the reception in the Great Hall.

The ICR would like to thank everyone who was involved and who helped to make this year’s Carols from Chelsea such a great success: the Carols Committee, donors and contributors, volunteers and all who attended.

Norman Mitchell, Alan Titchmarsh, Mishal Husain, Chaplain, Edward Fox Sir Mervyn King and Lord Ryder Louisa Stirland and In-Pensioner Bernard Wiles

Launch of the Discovery Club

Tuesday 13 November 2012
The Discovery Club launch event

One hundred guests joined ICR chief executive Professor Alan Ashworth and other ICR hosts at the Science Museum in November to celebrate the launch of The Discovery Club.

Over 75 members have already signed up to The Discovery Club, which aims to philanthropically support major ICR projects. At present these include the Tumour Profiling Unit, Clinician Scientist Fellowships and The Centre for Cancer Imaging, all of which are contributing to our mission to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.

At the event Professor Ashworth updated guests on the ICR’s recent achievements and plans for the future. ICR advocates, Lord Saatchi and Edite Ligere, spoke about their motivations for supporting the ICR and why they believe our work is so vital to the development of personalised treatment for cancer patients.

For more information about the Club please contact Caroline Totterdill on 020 7153 5304 or by email at caroline.totterdill@icr.ac.uk

Once again, the ICR hosted its Ladies Breakfast and Shopping Event in the Fifth Floor Restaurant at Harvey Nichols, on 27 September.  The event was enjoyed by all and raised the fantastic sum of £20,000.

One hundred ladies breakfasted on coffee and pastries before being treated to a trend presentation given by Mariella Tandy, Tatler’s Executive Retail Editor.  The ICR’s Chief Executive, Professor Alan Ashworth updated guests on the ground breaking research taking place at the ICR, and British designer, Roksanda Ilincic, spoke about her current collection and career in fashion design.

Guests took away goody bags courtesy of Percy & Reed and a copy of Tatler before heading into the store to shop.

The event was kindly supported by Harvey Nichols.
