Research Study
The Breast and Ovarian Cancer Susceptibility (BOCS) Study
Information for Professionals
Welcome to the Breast and Ovarian Susceptibility (BOCS) Study. The purpose of this study is to identify the genetic factors involved in causing breast and/or ovarian cancer. The DNA from participants and their relatives are used in research involving genetic technologies such as next-generation sequencing to identify and characterise genetic factors that predispose to breast and ovarian cancer. We also do detailed analysis of genetic factors to establish the clinical associations and to make recommendations for implementation and utilisation in clinical practice. We have already identified several genes and genetic variants that predispose to these cancers. Our discoveries provide insights into the biological pathways involved in development of cancer as well as information to improve diagnosis and management of patients and their families and potentially provide new targets for treatment and prevention.
