Pearl Group
Team Leader: Professor David Barford FRS
Location: Chester Beatty Laboratories, London
Section: Section of Structural Biology
Structure of complex between the N-terminal nucleotide-binding domain of HSP90 (gold) and the C-terminal segment of p50cdc37 (blue/green)
Research in the Pearl Team, focuses on studies of macromolecular complexes involved in three main areas:
- Chaperone Mediated Protein Activation
- DNA Damage Recognition, Signalling and Repair (Cancer Research UK DNA Repair Enzymes Group)
- Signal Transduction and Transcriptional Regulation
Studies in all these systems involve development of systems for large-scale expression and purification of complexes, structural studies by X-ray crystallography and/or electron microscopy, and biochemical and mutational studies, to relate the structure and assembly of the proteins and complexes, to their function and mechanism.
