LacZ marking prostatic buds
We are studying the molecular and cellular events that determine the sexual development of the mammalian embryo. Many aspects of sexual development are dependent on the action of sexual hormones. Our studies focus on how steroid-producing cells arise and function in the gonad and adrenal and how male specific steroids regulate the development of the prostate. The process of organogenesis has many parallels with tumour formation. Therefore we also investigate the role of prostate developmental pathways in prostate cancer formation and progression.
