The centre has a clinical R&D strategy based around research programmes targeted towards the treatment and care of cancer patients:

- Health Services Research
The Institute is designated as one of two Department of Health national (NCRI) Prostate Cancer Collaborative Centres and, in partnership with the Royal Marsden, one of 14 National Translational Cancer Research Network Centres (NTRAC).
The National Research Register (NRR) is a database of ongoing and recently completed research projects funded by, or of interest to, the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS). Details of projects ongoing at The Institute and the Royal Marsden are included on the database.
