Hypoxia and Metastasis Team
Team Leader: Dr Janine Erler
Location: Chester Beatty Laboratories, London
The Hypoxia and Metastasis Team is a new Institute Team, formed in October 2007. The Team is led by Dr Janine Erler.
All solid tumours over 1cm3 contain regions of hypoxia due inadequate blood supply from insufficient and disorganised vasculature. Tumour hypoxia is clinically associated with poor patient outcome. Hypoxic tumour cells are highly aggressive, metastatic and resistant to therapy, through relatively undefined mechanisms. The Hypoxia and Metastasis Team is interested in elucidating the underlying processes contributing to these behaviours, to better understand tumour progression and patient treatment failure.
