Career Opportunities
Post-doctoral research at the Cancer Research UK Centre for Cell and Molecular Biology
The Cancer Research UK Centre provides a stimulating and well-funded environment for postdocs. There is considerable interaction between the groups here, and it is very easy to learn new techniques and swap experimental know-how with fellow workers from other labs. At the same time, we run an active seminar series with talks from both internal and external speakers, and are within easy travelling distance of the other research institutes in London; this means that it is possible to maintain a lively interest in many areas of research outside the expertise of the Centre, and also to be a part of the very large and vigorous research community working on cell and molecular biology in London.
The Centre teams each have core-funded postdoctoral positions, which are advertised in Nature when they fall vacant. However, prospective postdocs are encouraged to apply at any time to the labs in which they are interested, as space can always be found for talented individuals. We encourage such postdocs to seek external fellowships from the many grant-awarding bodies, such as EMBO, the Royal Society and the European Union. We have a good success rate in attracting external money, and are able fully to fund the research expenses of those coming with fellowships which do not include money for consumables. Note that due to the time-lag between applying for funding and receiving it, you need to get in touch with us well in advance of your anticipated start date.
PhD Studentships at the Cancer Research UK Centre for Cell and Molecular Biology
The Institute invites applications for a number of full-time PhD research studentships every academic year.
Potential applicants should check the list of projects on a regular basis as the projects available may change.
Our postgraduate prospectus provides general information on the different research areas at The Institute.
If you are specifically interested in the work of a particular Section/Team at The Institute, you are welcome to write directly to the Team Leader concerned. A list of Sections and Team Leaders can be found in the Research Area of our website.
