Gynaecological Brachytherapy Course
The Education and Conference Centre
The Royal Marsden NHS Trust, Stewarts Grove, London SW3
This course has been CANCELLED for 2011, as it has been decided that the course will not be held this year.
This course is intended to provide medical trainees, registrars, radiographers and physicists with an academic, technical and practical insight into the use and advantages of brachytherapy in treatment of gynaecological malignancies. For those that have already studied the area in some detail, it should provide an opportunity for revision for professional exams - particularly Part II FRCR.
The course will cover the history and development of brachytherapy with low dose rate systems and then move on to the development, use and dosimetry of high dose rate brachytherapy. The radiobiological aspects of treatment will be discussed and ways in which radiobiology may modify what is essentially an empirically derived system, will be explained. There will be the opportunity to see intracavitary brachytherapy applicators, to discuss QA and calibration of low dose rate and high dose rate equipment and treatment planning systems. By the end of the day we hope that all participants will feel confident in an area which can sometimes appear very confusing.
For this course you are awarded 5 CPD points.
