Professor of Radiology Appointed DBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours

Monday 18 June 2007

Professor of Radiology at The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Janet Husband, has been appointed Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

As a leading international figure in radiology, Dame Janet has pioneered clinical research into cancer imaging over the past 30 years. As the first woman President of the Royal College of Radiologists, she has led the two specialties of Clinical Radiology and Clinical Oncology since September 2004.

On receiving this award Dame Janet said: “I am deeply honoured and privileged to have been recognised in this way. This is much more than a personal honour, and reflects the dedication and commitment of many colleagues working in radiology and cancer at The Royal Marsden and The Institute of Cancer Research, at the Royal College of Radiologists, and indeed throughout the UK.”

Professor Peter Rigby, Chief Executive of The Institute of Cancer Research, said: “I am delighted that Professor Husband’s remarkable contribution to radiology has been acknowledged with such a prestigious award. We are extremely proud that her clinical research has taken place at The Institute and The Royal Marsden Hospital.”
