July 2009
Breaking Barriers: management of cancer-related pain was awarded a prestigious prize in the 2008 MarCom Creative Awards (new window). This international marketing and communications competition is one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world; it recognises excellence in the concept, writing and design of marketing and communication programs and print, visual or audio materials.
The CD ROM won a Platinum Award, the highest accolade, in the ‘Educational CD ROM’ category.
This follows in the success of the Study Skills book – a handbook providing an introduction to some of the key transferable skills needed when undertaking a science-based PhD – which was a Platinum Award winner in the 2006 MarCom Creative Awards ‘Writing’ category.
The judges of the competition are industry professionals. They look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. There were entries from throughout the United States and several foreign countries in the 2008 competition. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 50 companies.
The MarCom's platinum award is presented to those entries judged to be among the most outstanding entries in the competition. Platinum Winners are recognised for their excellence in terms of quality, creativity and resourcefulness.
