Distribution and publicity

A generous donation made in memory of Sarah Roberts has allowed an initial 10,000 copies of the Breaking Barriers: management of cancer related pain CD ROM to be manufactured. These are available for free to healthcare professionals worldwide via our telephone orderline. Around 2,000 copies have already been distributed internationally through the orderline and through the IEU’s promotional activities.

Launch and promotion

The CD ROM was launched in the UK on the 16th April at the British Pain Society Annual Scientific Meeting. Professor Chris Eccleston, Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, announced the launch at the meeting in his Welcoming Address and staff from the Interactive Education Unit distributed free copies from their exhibition stand.

The UK launch was closely followed by a launch in the United States, at the American Pain Society’s 27th Annual Scientific Meeting on the 8th May.

Since its launch, the CD ROM has won a prestigious prize in the MarCom Creative Awards Competition and has been promoted at a number of conferences throughout 2008, including:

  • 7th Palliative Care Congress on the 29th April 2008
  • The 12th World Congress on Pain, 17th – 22nd August 2008
  • National Cancer Research Institute Cancer Conference, 5th – 8th October 2008
  • The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Oncology & Palliative Care study day in Edinburgh, October 2008
