Student Committee (Student Union)
A social gathering at the Brookes Lawley Building
The Institute is situated on two campuses in Chelsea and in Sutton. Students are from many different scientific disciplines within the Biomedical and Clinical Sciences. Our Union is small, reflecting the size of The Institute, and has a membership of approximately 150 full-time and part-time PhD and MD(Res) research degree and around 80 part-time taught postgraduate students.
The Institute encourages student representation in decision-making. Our representatives attend various Institute-wide committees from the Board of Trustees (the equivalent of a university council) through to the Academic Quality Assurance and to programme-specific committees such as the Research Degrees Programme Committee.

Extensive academic support activities are provided by the Graduate School, for example our award-winning Interactive Education Unit provides subject-specific and generic skills for both research and taught programme students primarily by electronic media.
Social activities for students are organised by members of the Student Committee for students based on both sites. Last year, our annual cross-site Christmas dinner was held in central London and was an excellent opportunity for students of both sites to meet. There are also events and facilities aimed at students on the individual sites.
