Opportunities for science students

ICR Student

One of our main goals is to educate and train the next generation of cancer researchers and clinicians.

Each year the ICR offers around 15 fully funded PhD studentships. Studentships are funded by the ICR and funding bodies such as CRUK, the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC.

PhD studentships are usually funded for a period of up to four years.

Initially, students are registered for an MPhil and after the first year has been completed, an upgrade report and oral examination takes place. Successful students will then be transferred onto PhD registration.

Progression

Throughout your PhD you will attend progress interviews with a member of the Academic Dean’s Team to assess your progression and your welfare.

In addition to the first year report, students submit a second report in their third year of registration and one year prior to submission they hand in a thesis plan.

At the ICR there are scientific groups doing research on different aspects of cancer studies. This provides an excellent opportunity to meet experts in the field and explore multidisciplinary research.
