Our students

Studying for a PhD at the ICR is an exciting, challenging and stimulating experience that forms a firm foundation for a scientific career.

The ICR attracts students from all over the world from a variety of disciplines. Meet some of them here:

Sarah Langdon

Sarah was attracted by the multidisciplinary environment at the ICR, which has allowed her to take her work in designing kinase inhibitors in new directions.

She enjoys the great atmosphere and community spirit of the ICR and has taken on additional student roles, such as the Student President and has sat on the Student Liaison Committee.

Jamie Mallinson

Impressed by the scope of research undertaken at the ICR, Jamie joined us in the Division of Cancer Therapeutics in 2009 and immediately took to life at the ICR by being voted Student President in 2010. Jamie is working on novel protein kinase inhibitors.

Juliet Richards

After completing an undergraduate one year placement at the ICR, Juliet knew the ICR would be an excellent place to do a PhD. She is working on the androgen receptor with regards to developing a novel therapeutic treatment for castrate resistant prostate cancer.

Nicola Rosenfelder

Nicola is a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Oncology, currently working at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She completed her MSc in Oncology at the ICR in 2010. After completing her MSc thesis she stayed at the ICR to start an MD(Res).

Chris Shepherd

Chris benefits from all the aspects of life at ICR and enjoys a full social life at our Sutton site. He is working on MicroRNAs, which regulate the expression of genes in rhabdomyosarcoma, the most common soft tissue tumour affecting children in the UK.

His project could potentially have a significant clinical impact on the treatment of the disease.
