How we are funded

Sir Richard Doll Building, Sutton

Sir Richard Doll Building, Sutton

Partnerships

We work closely with a number of funding organisations, including Cancer Research UK, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Wellcome Trust.

Our work would not be possible without our partner organisations, including The Royal Marsden. This partnership is further developed through our Biomedical Research Centre for Cancer.

The ICR is a college of the University of London and we collaborate with many other international and UK cancer charities and organisations in order to gain resources.

To safeguard our position and to provide for our sustainable expansion we aim to continually increase and diversify our sources of income.

Our funding

The ICR had annual income of £86.6 million in 2012.

Our current funding is broadly:

  • Higher Education Funding Council for England 23%
  • Other grants 28%
  • Cancer Research UK 26%
  • Breakthrough Breast Cancer 8%
  • Legacies and donations 8%
  • Royalty income 6%
  • Investment income 1%
